Tips
One of the most important tips about writing a successful CV is simply to recognise whether or not what you have done is good enough.
If you are a layman it is sometimes difficult for you to assess this. Consequently, one idea is to have your CV reviewed. And that should help. We offer a free CV review service.
However, even if you are not an expert, there are some things which you should be able to spot for yourself easily enough.
For example, is your CV a good length?
If not then you may need to expand or reduce it.
Is it presentable?
If not then this definitely needs attention, because your CV is effectively selling yourself, and an unattractive CV is rather akin to turning up to an interview in rags. You need to make sure that your CV is very presentable.
Are you addressing the employer?
The best CVs are written with the employer in mind, and you need to tailor your CV accordingly if this is not the case.
Are you selling yourself strongly enough?
Most people undersell themselves on their CV, and you need to sell yourself to the maximum if you are to beat off the competition. Of course, all this is easier said than done, which is why clients come to us to help from all around the world.
Is your CV balanced?
If not then it should be. Some people have CVs which are just long lists of one particular thing. For example, some IT CVs are just long lists of programs. One thing you need to consider therefore is balancing your CV properly.
Have you included everything?
Again this relates to selling yourself. A lot of people don't include everything they could to sell themself effectively. So be sure not to fall into this trap.
Have you included too much?
On the other side of the coin, many people include things they shouldn't. Just be aware that sometimes it is better to be selective, rather than write too much. The trick is getting the balance right.
